How to Navigate a Shifting Real Estate Market

The real estate market is indeed shifting. Today's buyers have a few more choices than they did just a few short months ago, houses are staying on the market for a longer periods of time and inventory is creeping up. But what does this mean for you? As a home buyer or a home seller it's important to keep up with the shifting market trends to be successful. Read on to learn how you can better navigate these changes.

Home Sellers

  1. Don't panic. Now is still a really great time to sell.
  2. Make sure your home is in the best possible condition. With more homes on the market buyers have choices and the house in the best condition will win.
  3. Price it correctly. Buyers have options and you don't want your house to sit.
  4. Reset your expectations. Chances are your house won't sell in multiple offers in its first hour on the market but it will sell.

Home Buyers

  1. Know your budget and be pre-approved with a reputable lender.
  2. Be prepared to move quickly. Houses are still moving fast. And although we have more inventory now than last year at this time we are still behind.
  3. Don't expect a deal or to low ball. We're just not there yet.

While shifts in the market are occurring, the good news is that there are more houses to look at, less competition and house prices continue to rise . So, whether you're a seller or a buyer, the best way to navigate and stay on top of these market shifts is to work with a local real estate agent who you can trust.
