Living in the Windom Neighborhood, Minneapolis: A Local Homebuyer’s Guide
Windom is one of those Southwest Minneapolis neighborhoods you really only understand once you’ve spent some time in it. Not because there’s a lot happening, but because there isn’t.
The streets are straightforward, the blocks feel familiar, and the pace is noticeably slower than many nearby neighborhoods. You don’t come to Windom to be entertained, you come here to live.
Where Is Windom Located?
Windom sits in Southwest Minneapolis, generally bordered by 46th Street to the north, 56th Street to the south, Lyndale Avenue to the east, and Penn Avenue to the west.
It’s well positioned for access without feeling busy. Major corridors are close, but once you’re inside the neighborhood, it feels removed from through traffic and noise.
The Feel of the Neighborhood
What stands out here is how calm everything feels. The streets follow the grid, the lots are consistent, and the experience of the neighborhood doesn’t really change depending on which direction you walk.
You’ll notice:
- Straight, easy-to-navigate streets
- A steady, residential feel block to block
- Fewer destination spots and less outside traffic
Windom doesn’t try to impress.

Compared to nearby neighborhoods, Windom is often where buyers find the best value for location.
Local Favorites & Everyday Stops

Daily life often includes:

- Short drives to restaurants and shops in nearby neighborhoods
- Easy errands without constant activity around you
You’re close to plenty, without living right on top of it.
